چکیده

Overnight cultures of V. cholerae, V. el tor, non-cholera vibrio, and Streptococcus pneumoniae in tryptone-soya broth (with 5% blood added for the last-named) failed to grow on subculture despite visible growth in all tubes. Viable counts and pH determinations of overnight cultures of various species in tryptone-soya broth, brain-heart infusion broth, and Lab-Lemco peptone broth show that death in tryptone-soya broth is associated with the drop in pH resulting from fermentation of glucose in the medium and that this drop is greater than that produced by the same amount of glucose in brain-heart infusion broth. Some strains of pneumococci failed to grow in brain-heart infusion broth and it is suggested that both these media are unsuitable for blood cultures.

Statistical Optimization of Media Components for Production of Fibrinolytic Alkaline Metalloproteases from Xenorhabdus indica KB-3

Xenorhabdus indica KB-3, a well-known protease producer, was isolated from its entomopathogenic nematode symbiont Steinernema thermophilum. Since medium constituents are critical to the protease production, the chemical components of the selected medium (soya casein digest broth) were optimized by rotatable central composite design (RCCD) using response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of...

Rapid detection of sublethally impaired cells of Enterobacteriaceae in dried foods.

Samples of dried foods, feeds, and drugs were examined for Enterobacteriaceae by using buffered glucose-Brilliant Green-bile broth as the final enrichment medium and deep tubes of violet-red-bile-glucose-agar for confirmation. The pre-enrichment treatments used for the resuscitation of sublethally impaired cells were overnight incubation in lactose broth versus incubation for 1 to 6 hr at room ...

Development of thermal inactivation models for Salmonella enteritidis and Escherichia coli O157:H7 with temperature, pH and NaCl as controlling factors.

The thermal inactivation of Salmonella enteritidis phage type 4 and Escherichia coli O157:H7 as affected by temperature (54.5-64.5 degrees C), pH (4.2-9.6 with HCl or NaOH) and NaCl concentration (0.5-8.5% w/w) was studied. Cell suspensions in modified tryptone soya broth were heated in a submerged-coil heating apparatus and survivors were enumerated on tryptone soya agar incubated aerobically....

Screening of different media for sporulation of Bacillus megaterium

Five different sporulation medium such as tryptone yeast extract (TYE) broth, tryptone glucose yeast extract (TGYE) broth, minimal media, Sucrose salt medium, Arret & Krishbaum (AK)sporulation agar were screened for spore production in Bacillus megaterium ATCC 9885. During this study, it was observed that out of different combinations of tryptone, yeast extract and dextrose sporulation was maxi...

Chemical and anti-bacterial characterization of aqueous extracts of oregano, marjoram, sage and licorice and their application in milk and labneh

The antibacterial effect of aqueous extracts at a concentration of 1% (v/v) and 5% (w/w) of oregano, marjoram, sage and licorice herbs, widely used as soft drinks and food flavors, were evaluated against E. coli and B. subtilis under in vitro conditions in tryptone soya yeast extract broth at 35°C and in milk and labneh respectively. All tested herbal aqueous extracts demonstrated an inhibitory...
